Increase Your Google Page Rank Through Article Marketing

A little over twenty years ago, while I was still in college, I took up employment at a collection agency. Yes I was a bill collector, or as they titled me, a professional claims adjuster. Their title sounded less intimidating and more professional I guess. As a collector you were responsible each month for collecting a certain amount of money from people that owed your client. We worked with a computer system that let each collector check their accounts to see exactly how much money they had collected for a given month.
Most of the time you knew how much you had collected up to a certain date based on phone calls you made, payments over the phone and so on. But there were those times when you would check your account and notice a payment was posted for a person you had never even talked to. We had a term for this when it happened, called "pennies from heaven". What this meant was you received money towards your quota without having to do any work to get it. It's as if the payment was dropped out of "heaven", hence the term, "pennies from heaven".
The Google Page Rank, PR for short, and Google search results work in a similar fashion. The higher PR your website is the closer to the top of the search listings your site will appear for keywords that people search on. When a visitor is able to get to your site via a Google search result I consider that a "penny from heaven". I do so because you were able to get a visitor without having to spend any money on advertising or marketing to do it.
The key to obtaining more "pennies from heaven" is to increase your website's PR. The PR is a number based system starting at zero (the lowest you can be rated) to ten (the highest you can be rated). Google takes into account various factors that add to the increase of your PR, but looks most favorably upon one way links.
One way links are links that are posted on another website that point back to yours. Sure you could contact a website and ask them to post a link to your site on theirs but the chances of them of actually doing it without asking for something in return are slim and none. What if I told you not only can you get a website to post your link on theirs without having to do anything for them, but they will do it happily, gladly and do it with a smile?
The fact is that is what article marketing does. You write an informational and educational article on a subject that is related to what your website is about and you post that article on various article directories. Bloggers and other website owners looking for content for their own sites visit these article directories find your article and post it on their own website complete with a link back to your website. They are happy because they are providing fresh, quality content for their visitors and you are happy because you are getting that one way link back to your website. It is a win-win for everybody.
To get started you should write an article related to the content of your website. It should also be educational such as tips and tricks that readers of your article can use. Your article should be about 450 to 800 words in length. Once your article has been completed, do a Google search on the words "article directory". Find a few that are appealing to you, create a free account and submit your article. Now all you have to do is repeat this process on a daily basis and your Google PR should increase in no time.
Just keep in mind that Google indexes websites about every four to six months, so if you see no change in your PR, do not despair, it will go up. Then once it does go up it won't be too long after that pennies of your own will be dropping from heaven.

There many free directories available online that accepts URL submissions. But some can argue that the links within the directories have no effect to your search engine rankings. Is Writing Articles the Only Way to Succeed Online?

Certainly not!
Many different ways exist to succeed with an online business. All of them will require a learning curve to use properly and effectively.
1 - Online Advertising
Traditional advertising still exists. There are many owners of websites who would be more than willing to sell you space on their site for your own site's promotion.
You will need to learn how to determine the value of this kind of advertising. How much traffic is generated? What kind of traffic is generated? Does the traffic convert to sales? Is it worth the money being spent?
2 - Online and Offline Word of Mouth
This is basically a free form of advertising. The concept is simple, if you know enough people and tell them, they in turn tell others and so forth. Before long many people are checking out your website.
Another similar technique which is an electronic method of spreading the word is thru the use of forums. You must be careful with this technique however, as it may be considered spam by many forum moderators and / or viewed negatively by forum members.
Many website forums offer sections specifically for advertising. They may charge a price, but it is usually not very high.
3 - Pay per Click
Many online businesses are extremely successful using pay per click campaigns with the search engines. Traffic can be nearly instantaneous and depending on the campaign large amounts of traffic can be generated.
This again is another technique you need to learn and understand before attempting. If not done properly it could possibly be one of the quickest ways to max out a credit card with no return on investment.
4 - Email Opt-In Lists
Many online entrepreneurs would say this is the only way to succeed online. They will give away products or information simply by having the visitor add their email address to their "electronic list" using a website form and then confirmed by the visitor via their email address, otherwise known as opt-in.
The idea is that once their email is on the "list", newsletters can be sent out many times with links to products they are selling. With this technique the visitor could possibly be sold many different products earning the online business owner far more income than only one initial product sale might produce.
Indeed, there are many success stories with this online business model. For it to succeed you need to have a large list of subscribers, good sales copywriting and products for resale.
5 - A Good Linking Strategy
It has been said that the links between different websites form the back bone of the internet. Search engines value links highly, especially one way links, and rank sites higher in their results which have a large number of links.
Website owner, naturally, figured this out and took advantage of it to gain increased exposure to their website. They participated in a form of linking called "reciprocal linking". They would ask a different website owner to add a link for them and in return they would link back.
This linking strategy worked for a while, but soon the search engines caught on and filtered this "fabricated" linking out, resulting in many site owners losing traffic.
Linking with relevant sites can still produce much traffic. It does again require a learning curve on how to do it properly and how to be rewarded from the search engines in terms of search results ranking. It also requires time for this method to work to its full potential.
People have succeeded in many other ways including blogging, free publicity and even by printing their website in various locations offline.
Articles are typically associated with online success from the phrase "Content Is King!" For many websites and users it is hard to beat the value of articles with the content they provide.
Many people are looking for information. They are not ready to spend money. However, capturing their attention by giving them the information they are looking for helps to draw them in and prepare them to spend their money.

Writing Article Resource Boxes That Get Results

Let's talk about your article resource box. In terms of their value for search engine marketing purposes, the resource box is more important than the article itself. Mess up the resource box, and the exercise is moot. The resource box is where you get to promote yourself AND where you get to place a link back to your web site.
Following are three criteria that your resource box must meet: 1. It should promote your business. 2. It should contain a call to action. 3. The resource box should contain a link that uses a relevant keyword.
If your resource box meets these criteria, it will help improve your search engine rankings and drive traffic to your site. Now let's look at a couple of examples to lock in my point.
Example of a Good Resource Box Johnson Tax Service helps small business keep more of their income by finding creative ways to reduce their taxes. Put the Johnson small business tax service to work for you today by visiting www[dot]Johnsontaxservice[dot]com. In this example, the words "small business tax service" would probably be hyperlinked to the company's web site. And as you see, it contains a call to action by asking the reader to put Johnson's tax service to work by visiting the company's web site.
Bad Resource Box Jack Jones has been analyzing stocks and making recommendations for 15 years. To learn more, visit www[dot]jackjones[dot]com. So what is wrong with this resource box? First off, lots of people analyze stocks and make recommendations, so what should I visit this person's web site? There is nothing that really compels the reader to do anything. However, strictly from a search engine perspective, there is a major problem, and that is no keyword link! The link in this example is the web site URL, which does not contain any keywords. From a search engine standpoint, having the link is good, but having a keyword in the link text is much better.
Sometimes in the link building process you don't have the opportunity to control what text is used in a link to your site, but article marketing is not one of those times. So make sure you use a keyword in the text of the link. Deep linking, or linking to pages other than the front page, is also another good use for your article resource boxes. Let's clarify with a specific example. Your web site sells old comic books, and a section of the site is divided into pages based on the company, such as a Marvel page and a DC page. If you want your web site to rank for a keyword like "vintage DC comics," you might have a better chance if you use your article marketing to create keyword links to the page on your site specifically about DC comics.
Hopefully you see now that writing your resource box is critical to receiving maximum benefit from your article marketing efforts and have a better understanding of how to do it correctly. It does take a little more time to write a good resource box, but it is well worth your time to go ahead and do the job right. Otherwise, all of your time will have been wasted.

As I said in the previous section you must stick with it. When you submit articles do not expect overnight results. It will take a little time for your articles to get published and then read. You need to build momentum first and then the expected benefits will start to show in terms of traffic.
Adopting article writing as part of your marketing strategy is a commitment of sorts. In other words for it to work you must work at it. By quitting prematurely due to a 'perceived' lack of results you are wasting all the effort you have already invested in your article writing campaign.
